Study buddies

I let the kids put stuffed animals on their desks so long as they behave. We must have a million in the room. This kid was so sweet..he read a book to his study buddy during silent reading time. Showed the moose the pictures in the book and everything. It was just too cute!

 

There are definate advantages to teaching at the same school for an extended period of time. I've taught members of his family since I started teaching at this school...aunts, cousins, siblings...kinda cool.

Along the same lines, when I went out for a cigarette at lunch, a former student came over to tell me he was out of jail. Bright kid, seriously misguided. He told me he took the chance to go to boot camp instead of jail for part of the time and thinks he's learned his lesson. He plans to get his GED and a job. I hope he does. It would be such a waste if he didn't. I told him I didn't want to read about him in the paper unless he was CEO of a Fortune 500 company. He smiled and said "Ok, Ms. O'Shea....I'll try". Here's hoping!
