Frozen Soap Bubble

They had a feature on the news yesterday in which they showed us how to freeze a soap bubble. I thought it would be fun to try and get a picture of one. Yesterday was prohibitively cold, but this afternoon it got up to a balmy 10 F with minimal wind chill, so I decided to give it a try. It took several attempts, but I finally caught a bubble and kept it on the ring long enough for it to freeze before it could break. There was a little bit of a wind so that made it challenging. It froze in only about a minute. I was hoping for a spectacular macro of the ice crystals, but it was hard to focus and this is the best I could do. You can see that there is already a dent in it. I didn’t have a lot of oppurtunities for repeated shots as the wind picked up and blew it apart. (See picture in comments.) And it was too cold to go back out and try again. It was fascinating to watch it freeze. It would have been nice to have an assistant to hold it so that I could take pictures of it while it was freezing.
