Sassy's Story

Sassy is 13 years old now, and she’s had quite a life. I am her 5th owner. She was rescued by my daughter when she was about a year old. My daughter had too many cats and couldn’t keep her, so we found her a home with our neighbor. He needed a good mouser for his pole barn out in the country. She was a very good mouser, and lived the next few years as a barn cat, exploring the woods and fields. A few years later our neghbor sold everything and moved to Florida. He found her another home with a neighbor a half a mile down the road, but she refused to stay and kept going back to her old property. Her new owner gave up on her, and we ended up feeding her for the month that the property stood empty. We couldn't get her to come home with us. The new owners fell in love with her and, needing a mouser for their barn, adopted her. We said then that Sassy was the real owner of the property. But a year after moving in, the new owners rescued two dogs that someone had dumped. Sassy hated the dogs, and eventually ran off and hid in the woods and fields for a month. Both the neighbors and us looked for her, but she wouldn’t come when called, and none of us could find her. Finally, a month after she disappeared, my husband found her and was able to get her to come to him. He took her home to our house. By this time she was weak and had lost a lot of weight. Her owners were afraid she would run off again, so it was mutually decided that we would adopt her. Thus she transitioned into being a spoiled indoor/outdoor house cat. But she never got far from our house, and no longer explored the woods. Whatever had happened to her, she was traumatized by her experineces in the wild. Since then, my husband passed away, and I moved to town, so Sassy is now an indoor only cat. She has her very own heated cat bed, and is living out her “old age “ in luxery. She is still healthy and as "Sassy" as ever.
