Amazonian Fisherman Cleaning his Catch
This Fisherman had been Up Early
...and still had plenty of work to do....( I believe him to be Peruvian Indian )
In this case, I don't have clear recollection, but I have seen many fish caught by the Indian Men, with just a spear....and the cord for pulling the spear back to the boat .... ....I do think there was one just out of shot....
They work from the smaller tributaries and backwaters....
They also use throw nets....
The only other way they use is normally for a special fiesta or occasion when a natural chemical found in the vegetation is used to stun the fish in a small area of a hand made lagoon...a loop in the river which can be cut off from mainstream...
It is a difficult life .... just to feed the family and living in the village...
This is in the Tres Fronteras Region of Amazonas....
...where Peru, Colombia and Brazil meet....
I believe he is Peruvian Indian ....
.........................................................................
Many large pots of fish and vegetables are certainly served ......head, bones et al...
Once cleaned the whole fish is simmered with some vegetables and hot chilli...
It is often found for sale in the markets where the local people eat. On it's own or maybe with a bowl of rice...
The markets ( e.g. Leticia, Colombia ) often have about 4 meal types available )
Alternatively the people's preferred fish can be used for Ceviche (also spelt cebiche or seviche) which is a dish popular in the Americas.
The dish is typically made from fresh raw fish marinated in citrus juices such as lemon or lime and spiced with chilli peppers.
Fish is cut into small pieces and " cooked " by the acid in the citrus juice until the flesh turns opaque...
Additional seasonings such as Coriander leaf, and sliced onion are usually added.
** One good thing is that this can be made in a small boat with no fire...on the move.
" Gone fishin' "....always means for a meal....or to sell.
