Who would ever know ?

On the right hand hill, at the very top there is a red flag blowing in the cold January wind.....

This means that gates are closed and there is no vehicle nor walking access along the tops of those far hills.

They are a part of the Ministry of Defence, firing practice range and the area is closed part of each week as those about to be deployed, practice their skills..

I could hear the booms when I reached the top of the left hill and out of picture..( I have no idea if they use blanks but the area is not blown up although some lowland is churned with tank practice routes ) . I knew it was closed but access with a sea view was possible for a few more hundred yards......then I drove a winding road back and around to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door on the coastline here.....

Down in the valley, life goes on as usual .....

Today was forecast as the only bright sunny day for the next 10 days so the opportunity just had to be enjoyed..... This photo was taken approx 3 pm with a 4 pm sunset.

The Dorset Coast, from Kimmeridge Bay to Lulworth Cove, lies within the Lulworth Army ranges. The opening times of the range walks, and the village of Tyneham are scheduled.

The Lulworth Ranges are part of the AFV (Armoured Fighting Vehicles) Gunnery School, an important training establishment of the British Army.

They include the coast from just west of Kimmeridge Bay to just east of Lulworth Cove as well as the village of Tyneham, Worbarrow Bay and a number of other walks. For operational and safety reasons access to the ranges is restricted to specific times.

The sea danger area extends up to six nautical miles offshore between Lulworth Cove and St. Aldhelm's (St Alban's) Head.

Vessels are asked to keep out of the area at firing times.
