Cotton spinning
Montagnard (Vietnamese hill tribe) weaver Ju Nie spins cotton on this simple spinning wheel made from wicker, bamboo and wood. I spent time with Ju Nie recently learning how to do a weft twining technique which is used to edge the large warp faced woven pieces that are made on backstrap looms. One of the finished woven pieces can be seen ready to have its fringe decorated with weft twining in the background. It is draped over a small stand while the weaver works on the twining.
