Young Man 1904

Family data: Confirmed: this is a portrait of my paternal grandfather, Roger Care, as a young man who grew up to be a lawyer and a justice of the peace in Pennsylvania. The name of the photography studio is faint on the lower right and looks like "Gaugler Studio, 408 Market St., Harrisburg, Pa. I became more and more absorbed in the somewhat enigmatic portrait as I attempted to restore it in Photoshop.

The original photo is in fairly good shape, it looks like he's looking out of a window, but with also what looked like faint water damage around it which I corrected as best I could. This is a clip of the photo which is mounted on large cardboard backing which apparently served as a calendar, as "1904" is visible on what remains of the last page that was torn off.

The embossed pattern around the photo is faint, but rather elegant.

Continuity: One of his sons, my dad, took many of the Kodachrome slide photos I've posted here.
