Emus are native to Australia and are found across most of the country. Being the second largest living bird, the emu is more than 1.5 metres (5 feet) tall and may weigh more than 45 kg (100 pounds). They can't fly, but they can run as fast as 40-50km per hour. Emus enjoy eating plants and occasionally insects. Male emus are dedicated parents, preparing nests for their chicks and caring for them after hatching.

Healesville Sanctuary, formally known as the Sir Colin MacKenzie Sanctuary, is a zoo specialising in native Australian animals. It is located at Healesville in rural Victoria, Australia, and has a history of breeding native animals.
