Zion National Park : Rock face abstraction . . .

This was taken while travelling on a coach along the Zion-Mt Carmel Highway, just a few minutes before reaching the Checkerboard Mesa.

 

Scratches and cracks on the rock surface are results of wind weathering, and cycles of freezing and thawing. Earth movements eons ago made the once horizontal scratch lines inclined at different angles.
