A Gift of Fresh-Picked Corn
I was chatting with my farmer neighbor the other day and asked him if he was selling corn this year. I always buy it from him but haven't seen for sale in his yard this Summer. He said the torrential rainstorms we had in June and July ruined his first few crops. But he said he had high hopes for Batch #5. I told him his corn is the best I have ever had. He laughed and said everyone tells him that. And added that if he manages to pick enough, he'd save some for me.
And just yesterday, I heard someone shouting "hello" by my back door. It was him, standing there with a half-dozen ears of corn! He apologized that it was not much, but he did manage to pick enough for his family and saved some for me!
What a generous gift and delivered to my back door, no less!
The generosity of neighbors, especially farmers... something money can't buy!
