Dekoven Center

On the shores of Lake Michigan, the DeKoven Center began as Racine College in 1852. In 1859, Dr. James DeKoven came from St. John’s School in Delafield to become Warden of the College. The campus was then expanded from its original building to a quadrangle with a chapel, dorms, academic and other buidings. It was modelld after the the quadrangle on Radley College, Oxfordshire, England.

In the 1930s this campus became the home of the Community of St. Mary, the oldest women’s Religious community of the Episcopal Church, The Sisters initially used the campus as a summer camp for dependent children from Chicago, Eventually they formed The DeKoven Foundation for Church Work, a retreat and conference ministry.

Today The Dekoven Center is an independent organization. It continues its "legacy of education, spiritual reflection and recreation, sponsoring monthly retreats and quiet days, hosting quarterly retreats and conferences led by nationally known speakers, and promoting a variety of events and programs in the arts. The Center also has a full range of gym and pool classes and activities." For more information: www.dekovencenter.org
