The Spur That Disappeared Than Years Later Reappeared-1777 Hubbard Avenue Batavia IL

From looking at aerial photography this spur was in place as far back as 1983, then removed sometime between 2005 and 2007 and the grade crossing at Hubbard Avenue removed. In 2018 tracks and a new grade crossing at Hubbard were reinstalled on the same right of way to serve a new Suncast plant. Google Streetview images show the spur missing then it suddenly appears again under construction in 2018.

BNSF services the industrial parks on either side of Kirk Road in Batavia including two different Suncast plants and Proex Carlisle. The BNSF job comes out of the Aurora Yard then goes north on a branchline that parallels the Fox River and Rt. 25. It is actually one of the oldest lines in Illinois and the original route of the CB&Q into Chicago via West Chicago and trackage rights over the Chicago & Galena Union/Chicago & North Western before building its own line from Aurora into Chicago. Today this line is in place but out of service from Batavia into West Chicago. It no longer connects to the C&NW (UP) in West Chicago.

The lead engine GP35 was originally built in April of 1964 for the Firsco Railraod, making it 61 years old and still in service.
