Since Demolished Former Swift & Company Offices in Historic Chicago Stockyards-4166 S. Packers Avenue Chicago October 2010
This building was recently demolished and was one of the last holdovers from the Chicago Union Stockyards era. Starting in the 1970s the former stockyards was redeveloped by the City of Chicago into an industrial park with a new street grid laid over it. Since most of the original structures like livestock pens and slaughterhouses were purpose built there was little to save. My understanding was that this tall brick building was the offices of Swift & Company.
These photos were taken toward the very end of my era of shooting pictures on film and unfortunately the quality of film processing had fallen dramatically, leading to the oversaturated skies which I was unable to correct fully in Photoshop. I soon switched to all digital photography.
