Street Trackage-Bliss at Cherry-Goose Island Chicago-July 6 2003
This view looks southeast at track that was installed in 1991 as part of a street reconstruction project by the City of Chicago. The track in the foreground continued down to AKZO Salt which by this time had shut down their Goose Island facility that received salt in hoppers. The track on the left went into Midwest Industrial Metals which received boxcars though by 2003 it had closed down and Calumet Camera occupied the site.
Note the stop sign installed on the track at the intersection of Bliss and North Branch.
Since it is ten years ago this month when the last revenue train was on Goose Island, Chicago Terminal Railroad to pick up a car from Big Bay Lumber, I thought it would be a good time to share a few images from a summer day 23 years ago when some of the track and and various railroad relics were still in place.
For pictures of trains operating on Goose Island see my Goose Island Flickr album.
