Under New Ownership-Soo Line Heads North to Peerless C&E Line Wrightwood at Lakewood August 5 1986
With the Soo Line takeover of the Milwaukee Road just a few months earlier a MILW MP15 that has not yet been converted to the "Bandit" paint scheme with MILWAUKEE ROAD blacked out heads north to Peerless Confectionery. It will return empty after dropping off this covered hopper of sugar.
The train is traveling on the Chicago & Evanston Line which once went all the way from downtown Chicago near the throat of Union Station north to Wilmette. By this date it had been cut back to Diversey to service the last customer, Peerless. Peerless closed in May of 2007 soon after Chicago Terminal took over from CP (Soo), ending revenue service on this section of the C&E. Now all rail operations are gone from the C&E and Goose Island, as well as the connecting Deering Line.
