Lending a Helping Hand-Heading East into Barrington IL
I came across this UP engine pulling a Metra one east into Barrington late this morning. I've seen UP retrieve Metra coaches and bring them back through this area but never a locomotive. The location is a private crossing a half mile west of Hart Road.
Hart Road will be closed for most of the summer as the grade crossing and intersection with Rt. 14 are rebuilt to try to eliminate the long traffic backups on northbound Hart Road during the afternoon and evening rush hour, with it going from two to four lanes. UP is putting in new overhead gantry type signals to replace the ones there today. It will cause traffic headaches as Hart Road is used as a bypass around congested downtown Barrington and Rt. 59.
