Soo Line Running Light to Peerless Confection Between Webster and Belden Chicago January 20 2004
On this January day over 15 years ago I was able to chase the Soo Line crew and their MP15 as it headed north on the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line from C&E Junction in the middle of Kingsbury Street south of Cortland to pick up an empty or two from Peerless Confectionery at Diversey Parkway. I cannot recall why I did not follow it all the way up to Peerless-probably because cars were parked across the track outside the Lakeshore Athletic Club that stopped its progress and I had to get back home.
The last documented revenue run on this line north of Clybourn was on February 2, 2007, when successor shortline operator Chicago Terminal retrieved an empty tank car though a rumor was that Chicago Terminal made another round trip in April of 2007 before Peerless shut down in May of that year.
The last train of any type on this line north of Clybourn was in June of 2009 when Chicago Terminal stuffed both ends of the C&E with gondolas to assert its rights.
