Northern Entrance of Jordan into Galilee

The Jordan River enters the northern end of Galilee via the Huleh Valley, which has at its foot the Plain of Hazor (marked by arrow). This narrow valley, hemmed on the West & East, is the only relatively easy route north for this branch of the Via Maris. Capernaum lies at the point were the mountain range allows a narrow ledge along which the road can run. This makes it an excellent point for a custom's office.
