Grumpy Bird 🐦

These birds are called Spice Finches. Spice Finch is non-migratory bird native to tropical Asia. Naturally, the question arises, what is this bird doing in California? After little research, I have learned that Spice Finch is a popular bird to have at home and is sold in many pet stores and sometimes birds escape. 😄 First spotted in the wild in the 60s in Florida, Spice Finch can now be found near lakes and rivers in Southern California. As of 2013, the non-native non-migratory Nutmeg Mannikin, also known as the Scaly-breasted Munia or the Spice Finch, has been added to the California Bird Records Committee State List.
