I scorned this shot for a long time. I thought it was very overdone. Every Chicago photographer has taken this picture probably at least 10 times. I also couldn't spend the time to keep going back to this spot, always hoping for the right weather leading to a unique shot.
Eventually, I gave in. I like this picture. The reason I think this shot works for me is because it was taken with a wide angle lens, which allowed the lights reflected in the water to stretch further than I have seen before. I had to get down within an inch of the water, and I used the ground as a tripod -- again. I really should take it with me more often. Oh well.
