Sara Carnochan of HeartBeet Gardening headed up a diverse crew of volunteers to install “Lasagna” sheet mulching on a 1/4 acre lot in Venice: cardboard was placed over the entire expanse and hosed down to begin the process of letting nature do her thing. Then the L.A. Conservation Corps rumbled up with a truckful of compost and cheerfully joining the other assembled volunteers in spreading the piles. The entire 1/4 acre lot was sheet-mulched in three hours flat. “This would have taken a week!” says homeowner Sal Kidd in amazement.
