Wim Delvoye – Caterpilar 5 - 2019
Wim Delvoye (° Wervik - 1965 ) is a many-sided Belgian artist. He is an attentive observer of his time. He assesses the future to predict emerging trends, but while still cherishing a strong bond with the past and its traditions. His works are the result of an encounter between craftsmanship and the most advanced industrial production. In the world of arts, he distinguishes himself by his fascination for the banal, the everyday and the kitsch culture. He combines "almost art" with modern objects associated with everyday life. By bringing together elements from different contexts, the individual images lose their familiar character. Wim Delvoye is widely known by showing tatoud pigs at the Documenta IX in Kassel in 1992 and for the Cloaca a machine that imitates the human alimentary canal.
This work of art is made out of weathering steel milled out by laser to gotic motifs. The crane was placed here in 2003 as part of the Beaufort art happening. In 2019, the artwork was adjusted by placing the crane on a truck trailer.

Wim Delvoye ( ° Wervik 1965 ) is een veelzijdig Belgisch kunstenaar. Hij is een oplettende observator van zijn tijd. Hij peilt de toekomst om opkomende tendensen te voorspellen, maar koestert daarbij steeds een sterke band met het verleden en zijn tradities. Zijn werken vloeien voort uit een ontmoeting tussen ambacht en de meest geavanceerde industriële productietechnieken. In de kunstwereld onderscheidt hij zich door zijn fascinatie voor het banale, het alledaagse en de kitschcultuur. Steeds combineert hij 'bijnakunst' met moderne objecten die geassocieerd worden met het dagelijkse leven. Door het samenbrengen van elementen uit verschillende contexten verliezen de afzonderlijke beelden hun vertrouwd karakter. Wim Delvoye is bekend geworden met o.a. zijn getatoueerde varkens op de Documenta IX in Kassel in 1992 en met de Cloaca ( 2002 ).
Dit kunstwerk is gemaakt van Cortenstaal dat met de laser is uitgefreesd tot gotische motieven. De kraan werd hier geplaatst in 2003 in het kader van de Beaufort kustkunsthappenings. In 2019 is het kunstwerk uitgebreid met een vrachtwagen opligger.

Il évalue l'avenir enfin de prévoir les tendances émergentes, mais en faisant ça, il choye un lien fort avec le passé et ses traditions. Ses œuvres sont le résultat d'une rencontre entre l'artisanat et la production industrielle, la plus avancée. Dans le monde de l'art, il se distingue par sa fascination pour le banal, le quotidien et la culture kitch. De plus en plus, il combine des objets modernes avec objets « presque d'art », associés à la vie quotidienne. En réunissant des éléments de différents contextes, les images individuelles perdent leur caractère familier. Wim Delvoye est connu pour ses cochons tatoués à la Documenta IX à Kassel en 1992 et la Cloaca (2002).
Cet objet d’art est faite d'acier Corten qu’ est fraisé à motifs gothiques. La grue a été placé ici en 2003 dans le cadre des événements d'art côtier Beaufort. En 2019, l'œuvre est élargie par un camion remorque.
