Brooks County Training/Simmon Hill

Brooks County Training by name is a pretty historical school. I don't know where it was originally located. Quite possibly right here.

The county got a nice amount of money in 1959 for four new schools. This was one of them.

This was the main entrance, which is a little weird as it doesn't face the road.

The end of segregation quite possibly caused the county board of education to change its name to the more politically correct Simmon Hill. Simmon Hill remained in use for several more years, finally closing sometime between 1990 and 1994. The Georgia Department of Education began putting serious pressure on counties to close their small, rural elementaries in the 1980s. This one definitely fit the bill as while it's on a paved road, it's pretty isolated.

Area residents have made at least one attempt to get money to rehabilitate this and turn it into a community center. Obviously, the funds either haven't come or haven't been enough.
