strangers 158

In continuation of the 100 strangers project, I turned to these two women who were in the lobby of the museum. We were listening to bell ringers who were performing as part of Art in Bloom weekend at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I commented on how "dapper" they looked for their visit to the museum. I mistakenly thought they might be related, but was told they had become friends about 15 years ago when they met at the condo complex where they lived at the time. Since then, one has moved to New Hampshire, and the other has remained in a suburb bordering Boston. We spoke of her neighborhood as it has changed quite a bit since my birth in that town too many years ago.

It was fascinating after we shared that we all were approximately the same age, how differently people's faces refect their life experiences. I mentioned that in terms of this project particularly, I oftenobserve the laugh lines and forehead wrinkles. These are areas I've noticed particularly in my own countenance changing over the years.

The woman on the right appeared to have such perfect skin (almost like an air-brushed photo),. She uses makeup (and to her advantage), but also said she has taken good care of her skin over the years to keep that smoothness intact.

The other curious fact that unraveled in conversation was that the woman on the left was well acquainted with e-mail and social networks, while the woman on the right said she didn't even own a cell phone, let alone a computer. I would have pursued this part of the conversation more, but we were interrupted by an older man who asked us to stop talking so her could hear the concert! So we moved aside, and I agreed to send the photo to the computer savvy lady who could then share it with her friend.

It was delightful to talk to them and compare "notes" briefly on where life in the sixth decade has taken us. They had no discomfort about posing for me or participating in the project, even seemed a bit amused with my efforts!

Thank you ladies! Hipe you enjoyed your visit to the museum as much as I did today.
