The Siege of Rockingham Castle
This picture shows Cromwell's pikemen and Musketeer's preparing themselves for a siege of the castle in 1643.In the foreground are Royalist musketeers, The castle being loyal to King Charles the First refused to surrender and a battle ensued. The castle did fall to the Parliamentarians. The owner of the castle Sir Lewis Watson was ejected , After the civil war ended in 1646 it was held in Cromwell's name until the restoration of Charles the Second in 1660 and the castle was returned to the Watson family. This reenactment was held by the Sealed Knot society on the exact spot of the original siege.
