Cranky Northern Saw Whet Owl - Aegolius acadicus - Larkspur, Colorado USA
A cranky Northern Saw Whet Owl (having been disturbed during its nap) sat and allowed me to take tons of pictures, from only a few feet away. He would eye my two dogs, rotating his head around to keep them in view, then swivel back around to keep an eye on ME. These tiny owls are amazingly tame, endearing to look at, but still...look at those claws! This little guy is a born hunter.
