Redsand Fort is one of the Maunsell Forts (named after designer, British Engineer Guy Maunsell) constructed in 1942 as part of Thames Estuary Defence network during World War 11 to deter and report German air raids and prevent attempts to lay mines
There are seven towers in the Redsand group at the mouth of the Thames Estuary. Originally there were 3 sets of these forts but only 2 now remain, Redsand and Shivering Sands . In 2003 Project Redsands was formed to protect and preserve the fort.
