I went to visit my favorite Osprey family this weekend! I'm so happy - they are back! Although the weather was not great, I had fun watching them.
The lady was in the nest and the guy was enjoying a fish tail on a branch of a nearby tree. Suddenly they became unrest and communicated to each other with a series of calls. A few seconds later the male took off and I finally saw what caused the disturbance in their peaceful afternoon.
There was a stranger - another osprey very close to the nest. The local male chased the stranger for a few seconds, then stopped at the nest for a QUICKIE (!!!) with his mate and continued the chase. I think the stranger got the message and left.
Probably the local guy was saying with his actions "This is MY nest, MY lady, MY territory and you are not welcome here!" Fascinating!
Then he returned to his routine - preening, cleaning and nest renovation.
