Green Heron

I've never seen The Green Heron before! I spotted him at the pond as we passed the park gate and at the first glance he looked like an ornament because he didn't move for a long time. However, soon enough he spotted me, because there were no trees or bushes for me to hide, and flew away. I was surprised how small he was...

I looked up a bit of information about Green Heron and was amazed at how smart they are! According to Wikipedia, they are one of the few known tool-using species. They typically stand still on shore or in shallow water or perch upon branches and await prey. Sometimes they drop food, insects, or other small objects on the water's surface to attract fish.
