Dinner Interrupted

Taken near the Etobicoke Creek, Ontario, Canada, Nov. 14, 2009. Could you help me to ID this bird, please :)

I guess there is a story behind every picture... Here's mine. I was walking through a townhouse complex talking with my friend on a phone when I saw a big gray bird on the ground near the fence, preoccupied with something. I stopped and watched, continuing the conversation and trying to figure out what kind of bird that was.

The bird felt my presence, picked up its food and flew towards me, passing 3 ft from my face. I ducked instinctively and followed the bird, which, much to my surprise, turned out to be a hawk. The hawk landed on a pine tree branch and continued to enjoy his dinner. I ran home, picked up my camera and came back. He was still there.

The hawk turned his head with the first click of the shutter, picked up his prey and flew 15ft away from me to anther tree. I followed him, of course. He looked at me again, took his dinner and flew over the fence. Smart move! I couldn't follow him to the private property :)
