Northern Dotterel (Charadrius obscurus aquilonius)
This is one of a pair that frequents the south end of Omaha beach, New Zealand. It is probably the male, given the deeper orange coloration of the breast feathers. Both northern and southern dotterels are nationally threatened. A small breeding colony exists on the north Omaha reserve at the northern end of the beach.
