"One Request"

 

Oh Lord, I've never asked for much,

But with one thing, I'm obsessed.

After considering all my options and such,

Please, grant me this one request:

 

I've searched my life and I'm definitely sure

This would make me happy and fulfill my dreams.

Not a beautiful lady who's witty and demure,

But a girl with very low... self-esteem.

 

Someone whom everyone looks down upon.

At least that's what she thinks.

She feels like everyone thinks she's scum--

Especially after too many drinks.

 

Now, between you and me, we know this is all in her head.

Plus, she' really not hard on the eyes.

Of course, I'd never tell her the truth, but rather instead,

Keep her 'esteem' at a manageable size.

 

And on intimate occasions, I'd quietly confess

That for her, I'm the only man--

Because, inside I'm also secretly a hopeless mess,

And have to grab onto whatever I can.
