Armory Windows

This image shows a partial view from 25th Street of the Armory on Lexington Avenue on the east side of Manhattan in New York City.

This view was originally captured within a larger image that included the window frame of the room across the street from which the Armory was observed. However that indoor detail was in relatively deep shadow and was not well captured on the Ilford Pan F Plus negative and has been cropped out of this scan.

This image was part of a test role of 120-size film exposed in an Ansco Color Clipper camera. This camera is an all metal collapsible 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inch format camera with a simple lens, a single shutter speed and two aperture settings, the smaller marked only "B&W" and the larger "Color". A film-winding knob automatically cocks the shutter. Film advance is monitored through a light green inspection window on the camera back. Light green seems too transparent to prevent film fogging so I keep the window covered with electrical tape and only uncover it in dim light while actually advancing the film. No fogging was apparent in the test roll but in general my selection of scenes resulted in underexposure of the negatives.
