Delta Airlines Boeing 767 N189DN

16th April 2012., Dublin Airport, Ireland

At approx 4PM local time, Delta Airlines flight "DAL 73" diverted into Dublin, Ireland while enroute from Istanbul, Turkey to New York JFK airport.

The reason for the diversion was the fact that a mobile phone was found in a bathroom, with a "faulty charger" requiring its "Home Made wiring" be connected to the shaver outlet and had tape entangled in its wiring.

The aircraft requested an expedited diversion to Dublin with security services on hand. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel but the captain determined that it would be prudent to land quickly and as such he was cleared to land on runway 10 at Dublin, even though runway 16 was operational. He decided on runway 10 as it was longer.

On landing he followed a marshalling vehicle to a pre-determined location. The airport fire service was in attendance due to the fact that the weight of the aircraft caused the brakes to overheat.

After the Gardai ( Irish Police ) boarded the aircraft, an announcement was made over the aircraft intercom system and the owner of the Mobile Phone identified himself. Gardai (Irish Police) then released the flight to continue its journey

The aircraft continued its flight after approx 3 hours on the ground at Dublin
