Vedette........Mallard Babies 9420 Ken Malloy Park SoCal

This was our second try for the Swallow-tailed Kite, a spectacular and unexpected visitor to SoCal.

We were told that we missed the kite by about 15 minutes. That's right. It was sitting in a tree a stones throw from where we parked the car.

On this day I decided to settle in and wait to see how the day unfolded. I would try to practice patience, gratitude, and mindfulness.

Jerry spotted the sleeping ducklings. One opened its eyes to check me out.

Vedette; plural noun: vedettes

1.historical: a mounted sentry positioned beyond an army's outposts to observe the movements of the enemy.

2.a leading star of stage, screen, or television.

...late 17th century: from French, literally ‘scout’, from an alteration of southern Italian veletta, perhaps based on Spanish velar ‘keep watch’.
