House Wren in Wintertime ....1102 LA Arb Southern California
Last year our friend, Ian, who keeps a bluebird box trail showed us a bluebird box that a House Wren had stuffed to the rafters with old nails. I've heard that male HOWR will make several nests in order to impress their mate and to let the lady pick the best nest. What would she think looking at all those nails?
I've also read that House Wrens like to fill up boxes to prevent another bird from having a family in their territory.
My photo was taken on a chilly gloomy day at the arboretum. This wren would pop out for a second and then dive back into the green ground cover. I enjoy the energy of these small birds and consider myself lucky if I get a shot in focus.
