Common Yellowthroat Madrona Marsh Torrance California 061

Madrona Marsh has a area that is surrounded by a chain link fence with razor wire at the top. They don't own this land. But the guardians of the marsh have a key. And we were lucky that Tracy Drake trusted us enough to give us a key.

I got to take a few hours away from the crisis at home. We are still scrambling to help a friend.

The story about the "antses" begins in Playa Vista. The playground security guard told us there were "little asses " in the bathroom. They'd been there for weeks. We made him repeat that over and over. He could see our concern and said "Don't worry. They are little asses." Still scratching our heads I could see him thinking.... finally he says "Ant-ses" the plural of ant.

So that has become a part of our vocabulary.

W9 set a camp stool up in this fenced off area called The Sump. This day we are seeing a kingfisher, an oriole, grosbeak.... and the cute little birds I love so much. Suddenly W9 jumps up yelling ANTSES! Well, I am bad. I just had to let out a big long laugh. Forgive me, W9.

Common Yellowthroat holds still just for a nanosecond.
