My 'Aquashield' roof 7 days after completion!!
This is my freshly 'aquashield' coated roof just 7 days after completion of the work. As you can see there is a strip where the coating hasn't taken and was washed off by the heavy rain we had yesterday. Over two weeks after signing the contract, the workmen finally came to clean my roof in preparation. A couple of days later I noticed that they had missed a strip down the LHS and called to inform them. When the workmen eventually showed up, they told me they had cleaned to the right of where the gutter had been painted cream. I pointed out that the council had painted my neighbour's gutters and accidentally painted a small portion of mine too and that the aquashield workmen had missed a strip 12-18 inches that was MY roof. They tried to talk me out of getting that strip cleaned and coated, telling me that "it will look silly because of the guttering". I insisted on having ALL of my roof done - obviously - 1) since that is what I was paying for and 2) kind of defeats the purpose of having your roof weatherproofed if there is a gap!!! Grudgingly they agreed. Another 2 weeks later they finally came and did the rest of the work and asked to be paid. I checked the roof front and back and pointed out that there was at least one broken tile that they should have replaced (according to the salesman) however they told me that only tiles broken to such an extent that they compromised the watertightness are replaced. I pointed out that that was not what I was told and they said that "the salesmen will say anything, but we don't do that". So I called the office and said that I was witholding the final payment until I was satisfied. Someone at the office phoned the workman and he said he had no tiles left in the van but would be back the next day to replace it and collect the payment. They did so and were given the cheque in payment. That was last week. Yesterday it rained here all day, totally miserable. Today I went out with my sis (6Lell9) and was saying to her to look at my new roof and as you can see from the photos, it's not anything to be proud of. The strip that they hadn't washed the first time is rather obvious again because the coating is begining to wash off after just ONE heavy rain!!!! I called the local office immediately and was told someone would call me back - I'm still waiting but am just about to call them again as I'm not letting them put me off until Monday and have no idea if they finish early on a Friday. I AM NOT HAPPY!!!
Phoned them another twice, got cut off the first time!! Had to give all of my details and the complaint again as it had obviously NOT been passed on to the person in charge. I have now been told that the workman will contact me 'sometime' next week. I imagine that he'll try and talk me out of having his shoddy workmanship fixed as that's what he's tried so far.
If and when aquashield rectify this problem, I'll take the photos offline. But until then they are staying and if the problem isnt resolved quickly then these photo will be going to every consumer organisation and website I can find along with every social networking site I can register to.
Moral of the story - don't be pressured into paying for work until you are 100% sure it is okay - I checked the roof and it looked fine AT THE TIME but clearly I should have waited until after a rainy day.
