Quake II: Phobos

Length: c. 240 studs

Pieces: c. 40,000

The Phobos is the carrier which transports the player to Strogos in Quake II. It is a ship of the old school 90s video games: it is not sleek, it does not make sense and it is not out to steal the show. It has one role: park above the planet and fire a volley of pods, each containing one marine. Then, hang around to collect whoever makes it back.

The ship only appears from the top and the port side in-game and a sketch was included in the (printed!) manual (inset). Its sister ship, the Deimos, appears in the intro to the expansion pack. However, the different views don't really agree! As it was only seen briefly, though, it was built by copy-pasting the same gun sections across the surface of the hull, lending it well to being recreated in CAD. So, the rules to recreate it were to match and blend what was shown and guess the rest, making it vaguely sensible (e.g. reverse thrusters) if possible whilst keeping the aircraft-carrier-in-space vibe.
