We've lost two icons today, Farrah Faucet and Michael Jackson.
Farrah was largely before my time, but I do remember a summer spent watching old re-runs of Charlie's Angels. You hate to see anyone have to suffer as long as she did with something like cancer, but she fought as well as she could and in the end, she lost the battle. I understand this fight well. I've lost close family members this way.
Michael Jackson, what can I say. As a child of the 80's, my brother and I's youth was encapsulated by the man, the myth, and the legend. As a black kid, you looked up to those few stars that slid through to the American consiousness and you wanted to be or know them because they looked like you. Just last year, and the year before that, I had my kids dance and theater group dancing to 3 of his songs. These kids didn't know Michael like we knew him, but it didn't matter, when the music hit, they were moving and grooving, and its hard to realize that someone whom you admired so much in your youth, is gone at such a young age and just as he was about to hit the world's stage again. Yes, in his later years he had plenty of issues, but none of us can deny the fact that he single handedly changed the world. He was an abassador, an entertainer, and a legend that will truly, never die.
I lit two candles for Farrah and Michael. You don't have to personally know people to miss them or the things they brought to your life.
