Shark Observatory cave entry
At the extreme tip of the Sinai peninsula. This is one of the worlds premier dives. IMVHO.
About an hours drive, (through a major army checkpoint), from Sharm-el-Sheik, through the desert and ending with some 3km of unmade road, you need a 4x4 to get there.
Its not usually entered from the shore. A few boats come, but not many.
Shark Reef is about 1km ssw.
Walk across the top (dead part) of the reef for an easy entry directly over the wall...
My Dive Plan
● There is a manhole sized cave entry half a meter under the water, {fig 1}.
It requires a 'negative bouyancy entry' to drop down vertically into the cave itself, (about -6-7 mtrs).
● Take a torch and compass.
● Let your eyes get used to the dark and about 50 mtrs to the South you will see a small blue patch, this is the exit. (For bail out, just surface vertically again.)
● A reasonably easy downward swim to -15-20 mtrs, (unrestricted) through the cave, the passage will open into a larger cavern, which will lead you out onto the two immense walls, (meeting at this point on a 45 deg angle, South and West). These plunge vertically down to over -600 mtrs.
● Definately not recommended for inexperienced divers or those who suffer from vertigo or claustrophobia.
● Exit, return same way, onto the top or through the cave.
