As part of Australia's Bicentennial celebrations, the rail community created a magnicent Austeam88 spectacular. Based in and around Melbourne, standard gauge steam locomotives from NSW joined their Victorian broad gauge counterparts in several parallel events on the northeast rail lines.
Britain's famous "Flying Scotsman" was meant to be guest of honour, but shipping delays caused it to miss the actual event.
Near the Victorian town of Broadford, 3801 on the single standard gauge track has dashed clear of the two smaller Victorian locos on the wider broad gauge rails.
This was one of the most emotional moments I have ever witnessed within the realm of transport.
