It is really amazing what some smartphone cameras are capable of today...This is a shot taken with an old phone (launched by Nokia in 2013).
Just a few years back people would search the net/market for some good yet affordable bulky DSLR camera or a good pocketable point and shoot...today a thin smartphone might have a camera powerful enough to compete with yesterday's dSLR, still with multiple functionality and much more portability and ease of use of course.
It is true that for the majority of professional photographers, dSLRs are the only way to go...still there are times and places when a powerful smartphone camera would be the best choice available even for a pro photographer. This is specially true when you are in a country like Iraq for example where security is an issue most often and the general makeup of the society doesn't give you the freedom you need to be productive. And even in stable countries, photographers can't take their dSLRs with them everywhere all the time but they can still make full use of powerful smartphone cameras which are already with them almost everywhere ALL the time.
Following are some examples of powerful cameras in mobile phones:
Note: I'm in a hurry and therefore won't go into details about the camera features each of the below phones is offering but I can say that each has a really POWERFUL camera in terms of both hardware and software.
1- LG G4, LG V10 and LG G5.
2- Samsung Galaxy S6/S7 & S6/S7 Edge & SG Note 5.
3- Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL.
4-Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 compact.
5- iPhone 6s & 6s Plus.
6- Nokia Lumia 1020 & 1520.
7- Nexus 6P.
8- Huawei P9 (newly launched but initial reports speak of good camera performance).
9- Lenovo Vibe Shot.
So given the current pace of smartphone technology, I believe the future is really promising especially in the camera department which is what both pro and amateur photographers seriously consider then upgrading their smartphones I believe.
