A participant competing in the 9th Poulters Company Pancake Race outside Guildhall, London, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, on Shrove Tuesday, stoops to collect the chef's hat which had fallen from her head as she ran with her frying pan and pancake. Teams taking part represent the many Livery Companies of the City of London and Corporation Departments. The races are started by the firing of a small canon by the Gunmakers, the Clerk to the Clockmakers times the runners, the Glovers provide the runners with white gloves, the Fruiterers supply the lemons to flavor the pancakes, the Cutlers provide the forks with which to eat them and the Poulters who host the event are responsible for the eggs which go into the pancake batter. .
