cogito ergo imago
The Pierre (Explored)
Having cost $15 million to build, it opened in 1930, not a particularly choice time to be opening a business. It went bankrupt in 1932 and was bought by J. Paul Getty for $2.5 million. Now THAT'S a crash.
It's a lovely place.
*** Update Sept 2017 ***
A triplex penthouse apartment in The Pierre is reported to have sold for $44 million, approximately 18 times what Mr Getty paid for the whole thing in 1932. Now THAT's inflation. (Though the price is actually a discount - in the original 2009 offering that eventually resulted in this sale, the apartment was listed at $125 million.)
