Owen Garratt (The Pencilneck)
"The Matriarch" - Graphite pencil drawing by Owen Garratt (Limited Edition of 1968)
"My 2 year old boy Hudson and I were enjoying a day at the zoo when the elephant got a bit huffy. She put her ears forward, scooped up some sand, and showered it at us. Hudson promptly grabbed up a fistful and gave it right back. It looked like a scrap was going to break out until a zookeeper came over and pounced on us. Hudson said - with some warmth - 'She started it!' "
"After I completed this drawing, I was interviewed on television, and when I got home, Hudson said "Daddy! My elephant was on TV!!"
"Uh ... did you see Daddy?"
"Yeah, but my elephant was cool!"
