Sheet
Any number of methods might have been used to secure the sheet. On my Esquif Presage, I tie to a seat bracket, go through the block on the boom and then to a block on the opposite seat support. I could have used a lashing, but decided instead to drill holes in the thwarts. The initial hole is small, since it holds a static line, but the second one is oversized and smoothed to make it act as a dumb sheave, thus saving the expense of a block. (Since writing that I have decided to add a block as it does not run as freely as I would like, and I'm thinking that reluctant easing of the sheet is a recipe for getting dumped, unnecessarily, in a gust).
