1. 21 February

All three of the following selections are taken from the Journal des Débats, from the days just preceding and following the events of February 22, 1848 in Paris. They were found on Gallica, in the arcives of the Journal des débats:

(gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/cb39294634r/date.r=journal%20de...)

These first passages are drawn from the 21st of February, from a speech given by members of l'Opposition (I think that this refers to the protesting laborers). The first text calls for a gathering to protest constitutional changes. This type of gathering is proposed in a way that suggests it is a familiar political tool. The second passage references France’s revolutionary past, and the Parisian legacy of political action and revolution that provided a common foundation for French laborers throughout the 19th century.
