The name given to the soldiers of Australia and New Zealand , a term signifying mateship or comradeship through adversity though times of war . The term Diggers really came of age from the first World War , given to those brave young men who found themselves on the slopes of Gallipoli having had to dig in their protective trenches to fight the Turks 101 years ago ..
