Saké masu pinhole - parts

Saké masu pinhole camera.

6x4.5 medium-format, 28mm focal length. Pinhole aperture approx. f/280, 0.10 mm diameter.

With the economy looking bad, and pay cuts and furloughs imminent, I decided to think of ways to "maximize" my pinhole photography. As much as I really like the square-format, by designing a 6x4.5 format pinhole camera, I am able to squeeze in 16 exposures per roll on medium format film (as compared to only 12 with 6x6). 4 extra frames per roll!! Wuuuhuuu!

The design took much time and planning. Numerous bottles of saké were drunk before it dawned on me to use my saké masu (square cedar cup) for the body of the camera. And then, countless paper napkins were used to rough sketch the intricate workings of the camera. Everything else in the construction process is a blur, but today I woke up with saw dust all around me and my new pinhole camera completed!

I spent the morning shooting 16 carefully composed masterpieces and will post any that turn out ok. In the mean time, here is a photo of the camera and the parts that went into it.
